For the Frying:

How to Make Dal Fara

Prepare the Dough:

  1. In a bowl, mix the wheat flour and salt. Gradually add water and knead into a soft dough. Set it aside.

Make the Stuffing:

  1. Soak the chana daal in water for 2 hours. After soaking, drain the water and transfer the chickpeas to a blender.
  2. Add garlic, ginger, green chilies, black pepper, turmeric powder, cumin powder, and salt to the blender. Blend into a coarse paste.
  3. Once done, mix in some chopped coriander leaves.

Shape the Dal Fara:

  1. Take a large ball of dough and roll it out into a flat circle. Use a bowl to cut it into smaller rounds.
  2. Place a small amount of the chickpea filling in the center of each circle. Fold the dough over the filling, sealing the edges. Use a fork or your fingers to press down and create a design on top.

Boil the Dal Fara:

  1. Bring a pot of water to a boil. Gently drop the prepared Dal Fara into the water and cover the pot. Let it cook for 10-15 minutes, or until they float to the surface.
  2. Once done, remove them from the water and let them cool.

Fry the Dal Fara:

  1. In a pan, heat some oil. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves, and hing (asafoetida).
  2. Sprinkle in Kashmiri red chili powder and mix well. Add the boiled Dal Fara and toss gently, making sure they're well coated.
  3. Finally, sprinkle chaat masala and chopped coriander leaves over them for an extra burst of flavor.

Serve:

  1. Your delicious Dal Fara is ready to enjoy! Serve it hot with chutney or as a snack with tea.
