Kathal Kofta Recipe: A Delightful Twist On Traditional Koftas
You know those times when you're bored of the same old Lauki (bottle gourd) koftas? Well, I decided to do something different the last time - Kathal Kofta!
Kathal, or jackfruit, is such a great alternative to the usual koftas and adds a unique flavor. Here’s how my friend made these tasty, crispy, and soft Kathal Koftas that left me wanting more!
Ingredients:
- 1/2 kg Kathal (Jackfruit)
- 1 medium-sized Potato
- 2-3 tbsp Besan (Gram flour)
- 1 tsp Ginger-garlic paste
- 1-2 Green chilies (finely chopped)
- 1/2 tsp Red chili powder
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp Garam masala
- Salt to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves (for garnish)
- A pinch of Hing (Asafoetida)
- 1 Onion
- 2 Tomatoes
Instructions:
Prepare the Kofta Mix:
- First, boil the Kathal (jackfruit) and potato together. Once soft, mash them well.
- Add besan, ginger-garlic paste, chopped green chilies, red chili powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, salt, and a pinch of hing to the mixture. Mix everything together and shape it into round koftas.
Fry the Koftas:
- Heat oil on medium flame in a frying pan. Once hot, carefully fry the koftas until they are golden and crispy on the outside. Set them aside.
Make the Gravy:
- For the gravy, take onion, ginger-garlic, green chilies, and tomatoes and blend them in a mixer. You can also use Chukde Spices here, which adds a rich and authentic taste to the dish.
- Heat oil in a pan, add the blended mixture, and cook it on medium flame for about 7-8 minutes until it thickens and the oil separates.
Combine and Serve:
- Add the fried koftas to the gravy. Let them cook for a couple of minutes to soak up all those flavors. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and a spoonful of desi ghee.
- Serve it hot with your favorite roti, paratha, or rice.
