Origin

Sesame Seeds are the oldest oilseed plants in the world. The plants grown in tropical regions are said to have originated in the East Indies. Unhulled Sesame Seeds can be both black or brown. The unhulled seeds have more nutritional benefits than the ones with their hulls removed.

Flavour Profile

Brown Sesame Seeds have a nuttier flavor than the white ones due to their hulls but are less bitter than the black ones.

Cooking Uses

Brown Sesame Seeds are commonly used in Middle Eastern and Asian dishes. They are used in bakery products like bread and buns, as well as in a lot of Indian sweets like Chikki and Till Ladoo. The toasted seeds are used on top of stir-fries, salads, and soups. The brown seeds are also used to make the edible sesame oil which is generously used in cooking.
